3. for the addicts...

so for all you "blog" addicts

- a quickie...
deon had a great interview on wednesday, the manager of the firm who interviewed him was super impressed that he was looking for work so soon after arriving in the country and the fact that he is already registered in NZ was a huge plus !! deon reckons it will be while before hearing anything from them as everybody works on "island time" - nobody's going anywhere ..... so please all send positive thoughts for a quick affirmative response.
just had a quick chat to D and it's cold in Whangarei - 15 degrees today (fri) and raining.
anyway, here are some pictures from last sunday's farewell party and my birthday .... those who where there thanks so much for a great party and those who could not make it - you missed a good one !
cheers

2. "it's like a dream and i don't want to wake up" D.A Fourie

deon has been in Whangarei for 3 days and is loving it - he says it is beautiful and clean and full of very friendly people - lots of south africans, the butcher, the fish & chip shop owner, even some fishermen he started chatting to on Sunday on the beach, who also turned out to be a plumber and could possibly help with getting an interview at the firm he works for ...
he is going for an interview with a different company on Wed afternoon so hope to repost tomorrow with some news - hold thumbs, toes and whatever else you can cross.

deon also keeps saying that i am going to love it there - then tells me about the amazing food that is available, what's he trying to say....... ;) scallops, mussells, snapper to mention just a few....

the modern technology of skype and google chat make communicating so easy so we "chat" everyday and it's great to be able to keep up to date on his comings and goings...
he visited some hunting and gun shops on tuesday and was amazed that guns are displayed out in the open, not locked away in cabinets....

On Wednesday nite he and the marnitz's have been invited to a bbq/braai at some people who i have been in contact with on the NZ forum, i bought some afrikaans CD's for them so there will be a bit of boerewors and sokkie going on in Whangarei tomorrow :)

the noodle and i have been fine - it's a full time job, this single mom thing but we are loving living at the Sea Point and enjoying our walks on the beach and playing in the park.

the pics are some that Karyn took of Deon and Duane on the beach in Whangarei on Sunday

1. Deon has arrived in New Zealand

Deon left yesterday, Friday 8 August at 11am from cape town, he flew to joberg and had a few hours before his qantas flight to auckland via sydney.
steve, an old school friend, came to the airport to kill a few hours and apparently a few black lables too :)
deon, not being the "best" flyer in the world sounded remarkably calm and relaxed before the flight - i was on the phone to him as they where calling them to board... so i hoped that he would have a good one...

thanks goodness, for family - deanna (deon's mom) spent the day, which was quite traumatic i must admit, with the noodle and me and then we came to my dad & sue for supper and to sleep. My sister tammy and her daughter maya where here too and we had a bit of slumber party and just being with people who love us made the day seem less sad and a little more manageable - thanks :))

deon landed at 11am SA time - 9pm auckland time and by 11h45 - i was talking to him on his friend duane's cell phone IN AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND - i could not actually believe he was there, safe and sound, thru customs and ready to start our new exciting, wonderful, safe and very very scary life !!

he sounded wonderful, happy and said that the flight was great and that he had no worries with customs.

they had about a 2 hour drive north to Whangarei, the town where we hope to settle, where duane and his family live and deon said he was going to sleep as much as he could and try get into the new time zone.

and that's it folks, thanks for reading this 1st blog - will keep it updated reqularly, promise and hope to be back with good news soon
